Sometimes Kacie couldn't help but question why there was so much evil in the world. So much violence and hatred and murder every day. Sure, for every evildoer, there's always a good guy out there waiting to kick their ass. Still, though, she couldn't help but wish that there was no reason for her to keep secrets, no reason as to why everyone hated her, no prejudices or hidden friendships of any sort. Sometimes she just wanted everything to be-
”And what happens if they have better genes than you, and thus, age with grace?” He interrupted, pulling her from her reverie with a grin on his face. Kacie rolled her eyes, replying with a smirk, "Well, then, I'll just have to assume that they're distantly related to me. The only person I've met that truly ages with grace is my mother. She's going on 44 now, but guys in their early twenties swear that she goes to their college.
Remus fell silent for a moment, and, during that painfully long moment, Kacie wondered if she had said too much. After all, Remus was one of the smartest Wizards she'd ever seen, and he was clearly observant. Most people seem to have a filter between their thoughts and their mouths, but hers seemed to be broken. Now she wished she hadn't spoken at all. ”That’s unfortunate. You don’t seem all that bad.” Blinking, his brows pushed together, and she knew that expression. Calculating, then, eventually, realization. ”Ah.” Remus said after a moment, grinning once more. ”That’s why, isn’t it?” Deciding to play stupid, she looked away from her, her lips pushed together in a thin, resisting line. "I've no idea what you're talking about. She said, focusing on the now changing shades of the leaves as they fell from the trees. Ah, yes, Fall was definitely on the way.
She grinned at the delighted, child-like expression on the dubbed "mature" Marauder's face, and dug her hand in her pocket as he spoke. ”That’d be simply amazing.” He finally said, and as she pulled her hand out of her pocket, she held out a small package. "Here," she said, "A Pocketfull of Sunshine. It's a delicacy in the Muggle world, and much easier to catch than a Chocolate Frog."
By the way the corners of his lips curled, Kacie concluded that Remus was the type that strongly disliked being patten on the head like an animal. She ignored it. ”Everyone has their secrets.” He answered, causing her to frown in response. Yes. Indeed, everyone did have their secrets, her included. After all, it was one thing to be a muggleborn in Slytherin. It was another thing entirely to be a spy for Dumbledore, for the Order. If the Slytherins knew either, however, she would suffer greatly for it. That threat hung over her head every day, every hour, taunting her with the fact that she could tell no one of this, that she could confide in no one, lest that be a secret, as well. Eventually, she nodded, "Yes, everyone does have their own little secrets," she replied, looking him levelly in the eye, her eyes filled with a knowing and understanding light, "And everyone's entitled to keep those secrets, as well. It's none of the bloody world's business whether we're muggleborns, purebloods, spies or Unspeakables. Then again, if we said that to everyone, that would only increase their curiosity, wouldn't it? Make them even more nosy then they were before."

SOMEBODY TAME THIS ANIMAL I HAVE BECOME - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Remus snorted obnoxiously, something uncommon for him to do. That had definitely been unexpected to hear. At least Kacie seemed to have a good sense of humor. Something he more or less lacked. ”Well. I’m sure that makes for many awkward conversations..” He mused. It followed the same lines of when a friend of yours told you that your mom was hot. It was just weird. Or so Remus believed. He really hadn’t experienced any situation of that sort, because most of his childhood he had lacked any friends to bring around his family. The joys of being a werewolf.
The corners of his lips curled, in that grin that simply screamed he knew he was right. He had nailed it right on the head, judging by Kacie’s sudden denial. With a chuckle, he shrugged his shoulders and decided to play along with it. ”Well, I suppose even I have to be wrong sometimes, don’t I?” If she wanted to keep up the Slytherin attitude and appearance, then by all means, Remus wasn’t about to stop her. But he really didn’t mind her at all. Unlike other Slytherin’s, she seemed to have a decent head on her shoulders. And she appeared completely sane, which was another plus.
”Don’t look at me like that.” He grumbled as he spied the grin on her face. He knew it was probably odd for her to see the childlike side of him, because it was generally rare for anyone to see it. But at that moment he could care less. People could tease him about his love for chocolate all he wanted. He had other things to worry about them finding out that were of more importance. Things that could ruin his school career. Remus’ eyes lit up as he reached out to take the small package, ”Thank you.”
The teenager shrugged his shoulders in response, ”I suppose it would.” He answered simply. Remus had gone years hiding his secret, and he’d be damned if anyone found it out now. No, he took so many precautions to hide it. It had been pure luck that James and Sirius had figured it out. Remus had let his guard down and they had caught on because of that. Though, he couldn’t really tell if Kacie was on to anything at the moment. He hadn’t given her any real clues, not really. He figured it was best to continue skating along the topic very cautiously.

Remus snorted obnoxiously, ”Well. I’m sure that makes for many awkward conversations..” He mused. Kacie chuckled. "Yes, well, it does get a bit uncomfortable at times. My brother once fought a preacher's son in the courtyard because he, er..." she trailed off, her cheeks flushing in embarassment. "Well, I can't exactly say, but I can tell you that that boy spent more time in a church on his knees then at the schoolyard." She laughed fondly at the memory. She missed her brother, Thomas, more than anything. She wished that he would have turned out to be a wizard, too, and that they could have gone to school together, but no, that just wasn't their luck. She wrote him frequently enough, but it just wasn't the same. She missed his crude jokes and his contagious laughter. She missed the threats he'd give to his friends that liked to ogle her, as well as the other Muggles in the tiny village. She missed a lot of things, but she just had to grin and bear it for now.
With a chuckle, he shrugged his shoulders and decided to play along with it, and for that, she was grateful.”Well, I suppose even I have to be wrong sometimes, don’t I?” Kacie nodded in agreement, though there was no smile on her face this time. "Yes," she agreed, "Everyone has to be wrong at some point or another." She stared at the sky, barely noting the gently gradually shades of pink and orange clouds that floated by. Kacie eventually turned her gaze back to Remus, and offered a small smile. "Thank you," she said, hoping that he understood what she meant by it. There were very few people she could converse with that were not nosy dimwits, and the ones that weren't, she found easy to get on with. They were more understanding than others, and tended to agree with the idea that if someone wanted their business private, it should be kept private. These were one of the many things she admired about this Marauder, and hoped that he would never change in the future. He was far too good a person to be ruined by the outside world.
”Don’t look at me like that.” He grumbled as he spied the grin on her face, which only made Kacie grin even wider. "I can't help it," she defended, "I'm having a Cheshire moment." Remus’ eyes lit up as he reached out to take the small package, ”Thank you.” He said. "No problem, Mr. Lupin," she replied cheerfully, opening a small package of the Muggle chocolate herself, and popping it into her mouth. She almost groaned, the candy tasted so good.
The teenager shrugged his shoulders in response, ”I suppose it would.” As she waited for him to continue, Kacie's face changed gradually from a serious expression to a teasing one. "You don't talk much, do you?" She observed, popping another candy into her mouth. If he didn't, then he would surely need to loosen up those lips a bit, because she was hyper, and that either meant that he start talking, or she try to talk him into practicing DADA with her. She had nother better to do, and she was bored.

SOMEBODY TAME THIS ANIMAL I HAVE BECOME - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was just as he had assumed. Though he hadn’t been expecting the story that came along with her agreement. Remus laughed softly and shook his head. He could only imagine what that would be like, seeing people flirting with your own mother. Though he supposed in those types of situations it was best to just laugh at them, because there really wasn’t anything else to be done. Aside from attack the disrespectful guy, apparently. ”Sounds like there is never a dull moment.” He finally answered, lips curled into a grin.
It was rare for Remus to ever back down from something like an argument, or a topic in which he knew he was right. If he knew his point was correct, he’d fight it to the end. But in this rare circumstance he decided it was alright to back off. For the sake of being nice, which he always was. Remus simply gave her a knowing smile as she agreed. Despite his growing curiosity, he decided to simply let the topic drop. Kacie was certainly turning into quite an interesting person, more so than he had expected. Most Slytherin’s were quite dull and unintelligent. And the stereotype wasn’t without extensive observation as well as talking to them. Or rather, listening to them attempt to insult him and the rest of the Marauders. ”Do you always randomly thank people without reason? You shouldn’t. It might confuse people.” Remus replied.
”I bet you could. You just choose not to.” It was obvious she was getting too much enjoyment out of his reaction to being given chocolate. But whatever, he really didn’t mind. And he was use to it, because Sirius and James always bribed him with chocolate. Or it’s what they gave him for Christmas and birthday presents, for lack of any better ideas. Remus took a bite of the chocolate and hummed as the delicious chocolate hit his taste buds. Oh how wonderful it was. No doubt it would help him feel better as well, since he still felt like crap. ”Delicious.” He mumbled after swallowing the bite of chocolate.
Remus laughed, shrugging his shoulders after her question. At least his goal had been obtained at last. The conversation had turned away from where it had been dangerously wavering. ”No, not really. I generally leave all the talking to Sirius and James. They after all, are the ones with the amazing knack for smooth pick up lines and amazingly creative insults.” It was true. For the most part, Remus really didn’t speak all that much. Most of the time he was too busy with his nose in a book.

Remus laughed softly and shook his head at her. She could only imagine the scenarios that were running through his mind at the moment. She could remember beating the boys off of her mother with a stick over her summer holidays. They used to infuriate her, but now that it's over and she thought about it from time to time, it was rather comical. ”Sounds like there is never a dull moment.” He finally answered, lips curled into a grin. She laughed heartily, her face lighting up like the sun as she replied, "Never."
Remus simply gave her a knowing smile as she agreed, and she was glad that he didn't pursue the matter further. He seemed to decide to simply let the topic drop. She was beginning to find Remus more and more agreeable by the minute, and she enjoyed his company more so than she had expected. He seemed to be an interesting enough character, as well. She could see herself becoming great friends with him. She frowned, however, when she remembered what house he was in. It had been different with Sirius, but then again, was she really right in wanting to trust the bloke? In wanting to trust Remus, as well? After all, they were Gryffindors; there was no way that either of them could befriend a Slytherin. They were above that. Her frown deepened as she remembered her own house. Because of that, she had hardly any friends, and no one trusted her. It was to be expected. If she were a Gryffindor, she'd have difficulty trusting a Slytherin, as well. Then again, she always had a problem trusting her fellow housemates. ”Do you always randomly thank people without reason? You shouldn’t. It might confuse people.” Remus replied. Kacie shrugged. "I'm a very confusing person," she replied, "Besides, I'm used to confusing people. It's no fun being normal."
”I bet you could. You just choose not to.” It was obvious she was getting too much enjoyment out of his reaction to being given chocolate, she knew, but she didn't care. He didn't seem to mind, anyway, almost as if he was used to it. She grinned at him impishly, "Damn. You foiled my foolproof plan!" she feigned disappointment and sadness in her expression. She sniffled, wiping an invisible tear off of her face. She grinned once more. "I'll get you some chocolate soon," she promised, "You'll probably need it in a week or two, anyway.". Remus took a bite of the chocolate and hummed as he ate. She smiled at the sight, finding it rather humorous indeed. ”Delicious.” He mumbled after swallowing the bite of chocolate. She nodded in agreement. "No doubt about it. Makes everything in the world better."
Remus laughed, shrugging his shoulders after her question. At least her goal was being obtained at last. The conversation had turned away from where it had been wavering. She wasn't in the mood for silence at the moment. ”No, not really. I generally leave all the talking to Sirius and James. They after all, are the ones with the amazing knack for smooth pick up lines and amazingly creative insults.” Kacie laughed. "I've got a good one for you to tell them," she chuckled. She leaned forward, staring deeply into his eyes, a serious expression on her enchanting face. "If a fat guy comes by and stuffs you in a bag, don't worry. I just asked Santa to give me you for Christmas."

SOMEBODY TAME THIS ANIMAL I HAVE BECOME - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Remus allowed a slight smirk to grow across his lips as he listened to her. She certainly wasn’t too confusing, but if she wanted to believe that, then who was he to stop her? Honestly though, he had more or less figured her out. A sheep in wolfs clothing, that’s what she was. Or so she seemed. She was nice, and Remus really was enjoying the small talk they were having. It was certainly keeping his mind of things that had passed as well as things to come in the near future. And that was something he always needed. “Normal? Maybe for you. Sometimes I wished I was more normal.” And oh, the many meanings behind that!
A chuckle escaped the blond as he was told he had ruined her plans. “I’m rather good at that, or so I’ve been told.” Indeed, he was. Remus was one of the few that could possibly foil a Marauder’s plans, and that was only because he usually had the inside scoop on them. He was often scolded for ruining plans as well. Remus found it far too amusing to ruin his friends plans, whether just out or spite or by pointing out the flaws in them. The smile on his lips curved into a slight frown at her next words though. He could have sworn his heart had skipped a beat. What had she meant by ‘you’ll probably need it in a week or two’? Did she know? Could she somehow have caught on? No. There was no way she could have known of his secret. Quickly trying to cover up his reaction, Remus forced out a laugh and shook his head at her. “And whys that?" And with that said, Remus took another bite out of the chocolate he held in his hand to shut himself up. Sometimes when he was nervous he tended to say things without thinking about them. Which in his case, could prove to cause quite the predicament. “I disagree. I’m pretty sure even dirt covered in chocolate would still taste bad.”
Remus’ light colored eyes blinked, then narrowed slightly as he gave the girl a wary look. He often gave Sirius and James that look anytime they seemed to have something up their sleeve, or were about to say something that would cause him to roll his eyes. Oh yes, and what Kacie just said definitely earned a roll of his eyes. Laughing, Remus shook his head and grinning in amusement. “That’s creepy. But I certainly haven’t heard them use that one before. I’ll have to pass it along.” Sirius and James would most definitely get a kick out of that one.
