Helena was quite thankful that the girl understood that she wasn't going to say anything about the matter of her insinuation. Watching the anxiety race into Kacie's expression, the raven-haired girl simply flashed her another small smile, trying to relay to her that anything she knew, she would take to her grave. She may have made the wrong choice in becoming a Death Eater, but she was no traitor. At her question, Helena erased all fear and terror from her face and simply smiled that breathtaking and effortless grin. With shining pearly whites, she whispered, "No, no. Everything is quite fine, I can assure you. I am just having a spot of trouble with my parents at the moment. It is nothing that I cannot handle." Her voice had a reassuring tone, but she was lying through her teeth. Yet, it did not show on any part of her face or in her eyes. She wore the perfect mask. Unless she was cracked open by someone that chose to delve into her deepest thoughts, her true soul would be unknown to everyone but herself. She knew of Kacie's being close to Dumbledore and she had a feeling the girl might rat her out for being a Death Eater. But, she didn't understand. She wasn't born into a family of egotistical and uncaring purebloods, the kind that look down at other people below them. But, she didn't want to be like that. She doubted that people that were against Voldemort would understand her reasoning. She didn't want to risk it. Smiling cutely at Kacie's comment, Helena felt a small urge to laugh once more. She had been feeling this lately, but she didn't remember how to. Years of being told to stay quiet and being stifled by her parents made her retreat to her silent coercion of making her voice into a whispering wind. It resulted in her forgetting how to laugh, for every time she thought something amusing now, there was a tickle in her throat, but no sound came forth. It was quite sad, really. "It is beautiful here, is it not?" Helena murmured, moving her own emeralds across the grounds and gazing down at them longingly. When she made eye contact with Kacie again, she realized that she had shown too much of her expression once more, and replaced her sorrow with a sort of smug joy, one that she was still learning to perfect.
When her fellow Slytherin spoke again, Helena stared at her in a sort of awe. She had never thought of it in that way. She sighed. "I suppose that you could call me a negative human being, then." She cringed. She wasn't really human, was she? She was half of a monster and she couldn't even imagine why she had just compared herself to a human. She doubted she had enough human genes in her to actually be considered one. She still had the famous Veela temper, after all, which was quite irrational and sometimes uncontrollable at times. She was not human, or she couldn't call herself one. She was a monster, inside and out. At the mention of what normal was, Helena gave her another knowing look and that beautiful smile fluttered across her full lips. "What does anyone know of normal here?" She knew nothing but bizarreness, that was for sure. She had grown up in a house of wickedness, in her opinion, only able to turn to her full Veela grand-mère, who was close to death. She found it quite depressing, since her mémé had been her only friend growing up. She knew that her grand-mère was more lenient with her rules and she believed in Helena's way of thinking, but they knew that they could never speak their thoughts aloud. It was just a simple little look that they recognized in each other, a softness of each of their souls visible only to each other. Helena wrote her constantly, for she was disgusted with her parents. But, she couldn't hate them. She loved them unconditionally, but she couldn't agree with anything they were doing. Helena focused back on Kacie, read the suspicion in her eyes and simply grinned again. She would say nothing unless the other girl asked and she would only answer once and if they became better friends. She knew that Kacie would be uncomfortable about her knowing a lot about her, but she should have realized that that was the reason Helena said nothing about herself aloud. She wanted nothing to do with people, for she knew that in the end, they would hurt her. Smirking, Helena waved her hand in the air, clearly shoving the question away. Nodding softly, she made it clear that she was alright, when in fact inside of herself, she was screaming. Thinking it interesting that James' hurt feelings were actually getting to her, Helena watched her fellow Slytherin curiously. She read the regret clearly through the similar emerald eyes and couldn't help but smile wider. When Kacie walked back over to the window, green emeralds watched her stoically, following her eyes down to a solitary couple down by the lake. If Helena was correct in her inference, she figured Kacie would be thinking about the time she and Sirius were down there, near that same spot.
Her eyes swiveled back to those warm browns and they sparkled as he continued on with her conversation. She couldn't really remember having such a pleasant conversation with someone before this. Usually all of the other Slytherins wrote her off as a snob, thinking her to be conceited in her hereditary beauty and too-perfect features, which she found quite irritating. She nodded, before whispering, "I do enjoy Potions quite a bit, if that was not obvious as to why I chose to be in Advanced Potions, but I feel as if he should have started us out with something at least a tad easier. Most fully grown wizards cannot even accomplish making a Draught of the Living Death without causing it to malfunction." She didn't want to tell her real reason of taking that class. She was in it because if there was any opportunity for her to become a Healer, she wanted all the criteria she would need. She hadn't even talked to her Head of House about it, for she had told him that she wasn't sure what she wanted to do. She looked up the requirements for a Healer on her own. She trusted no one. She examined her nails a moment, thinking. "I suppose by giving us a difficult potion to start out with, he was seeing what kind of students we were . . . He was examining the way we would deal with pressure of difficulty, I suppose." She noticed his cringe and tilted her head to the side ever so slightly. With a soft smile, she whispered, "If you--" she glanced at Kacie for a moment before continuing. "--either of you need help with Potions, I would be more than happy to be of assistance. I can see that it is really the one thing I love with a passion." No, she didn't like fighting or finding spells to hurt other people. She just wanted to make Potions to help people and create new things. She smiled at the both of them again, trying to keep her composure light and full of joy, when in reality her soul was decaying. Kacie could not help but feel a slight sense of worry when it came to the Berkeley girl. Something in her gut was telling her that she was not as she seemed, that there was something going on inside of that abnormally beautiful head of hers, eating away at her innner most self. Kacie suspected that the girl must be half-veela, though she tended to keep to herself. Boys left and right, of all houses, seemed to throw themselves at her, hoping to get a single hint of preferance, but, from what she's seen in the past, Helena hadn't seemed to be interested in any of them. She offered a small smile in response to the Seventh Year's. At her question, Helena simply smiled that breathtaking and effortless grin. With shining pearly whites, she whispered, "No, no. Everything is quite fine, I can assure you. I am just having a spot of trouble with my parents at the moment. It is nothing that I cannot handle." Kacie offered the girl a small smile of understanding, and nodded. "Yes," she agreed, "Nothing's worse than a parent with opposing views." She kept her face calmly composed as she said this, refusing to let any of her emotions show. She and her mother had a strained relationship as it was, and she no longer had a father to feud with. The only thing that had kept her from shouting at her mum on a regular basis over the summer was Thomas, and even then, it was hard. Smiling at Kacie's comment, Helena looked as if she were struggling to hold back a chuckle of amusement. "It is beautiful here, is it not?" Helena murmured, moving her own emeralds across the grounds and gazing down at them longingly. When she made eye contact with Kacie again, she noticed the almost melancholy look in her eyes, but it was replaced quickly by a look of sorrow and a smug joy that did nothing to complement her already beautiful features, in her opinion. "Exquisitely so," Kacie replied with a small sigh. "It's like my home away from home."
When Kacie spoke again, Helena stared at her in a sort of awe, then, after a moment, she sighed. "I suppose that you could call me a negative human being, then." The younger Slytherin sighed as Helena cringed. She hadn't meant to make the girl feel horridly. In fact, she had merely been trying to gain an optimistic response from her. It seemed as though that was hard to come by these days. "No, you're not," she assured her, "I apologize. I didn't think you would take it that way." At the mention of what normal was, Helena gave her another knowing look and that beautiful smile fluttered across her full lips. "What does anyone know of normal here?" Kacie nodded in reply, knowing that her statement was true. "Yeah, but, compared to my normal, I've been doing rather well," she then sighed, sadness creeping into her voice as she muttered, "Merlin knows how long that will last." She knew that the happiness she felt with Sirius was bound to fall apart sooner or later. She could feel it running through her veins, with each letter she recieved from Thomas, each one shorter and more brief than the next. An ominous feeling was stirring in the pit of her stomach, and she knew something was going on. She had heard several Slytherins whispering excitedly about something, though they were quiet when in her presence. The girl focused back on Kacie, and simply grinned again. Smirking, Helena waved her hand in the air, clearly shoving the question away. Nodding softly, she made it clear that she was alright, when in fact Kacie suspected something was brewing deep down inside.
She could hear Potter sigh softly, and she forced herself not to look back at him. She knew it was probably rude to be reacting this way towards him, but she found that she could not trust herself to try and be civil towards him while looking at him, as well. Kacie had normally never bothered being polite to Gryffindors, especially those that had treated her horridly in the past, and a part of her felt that James was simply trying to make up for the past, but it simply wasn't as easy as it had been with Sirius. He looked at her, his eyes meeting hers for the briefest second, a surprised look on his face. After a moment, he sent her a thankful smile and said, "Thanks...apology accepted...." Kacie offered him a small smile in response. "All right, then," she said, for lack of a better response.

James smiled as he glanced around. He really did love being up here. He would come up here and just look at the stars some nights. Well, usually most nights. He hadn't ever been one to sleep much, but now with everything going on with Lily, he was barely sleeping at all. He would come up here and clear his mind, and just relax. It reminded him of home, where he would sit out on the roof of his house and watch the stars, and talk to Sirius. He smiled some as he thought of his best friend. Sirius, and Remus for that matter, were the only two that knew he came up here to look at the stars. Sirius never came with him, probably because of the "image" he wanted to maintain, but James knew once they got home, Sirius would be right there, up on the roof with him. It was one of those things that they just kind of did. They never talked about it, it just ended up happening that way.
Helena's voice brought James out of his thoughts and he quickly got his attention back on their conversation. He nodded and said, "Yah, I thought maybe he would have given us something easier, but you know, it is Advanced Potions. Maybe he just wanted to make sure that we could handle the class?" James thought for a second and said, "Well, potions isn't my favorite subject, but it's not one that I am opposed to taking. I find it quiet interesting." James just didn't know where Potions was going to fit into his future plans. For him to be an auror, he assumed the only potion he would need to know was a healing potion, which they had been taught a year or two ago in one of their regular potions classes. He knew Sirius felt the same way about Potions, which is probably why he wasn't in the advanced class with James. James laughed softly to himself, trying to imagine Sirius in an advanced class. He knew Sirius didn't like school that much to begin with, so obviously he wouldn't be in that class. James nodded slowly and said, "Exactly what I was thinking. Anyone who can't handle the pressure, he probably took aside and talked to them. I'll admit, I had a problem or two in making it, but it ended up turning out right, so I'm not complaining..."
James smiled soflty as he heard Kacie. He was still annoyed by the fact that she seemed to not be noticing his attempts to be nice to her, and make up for the pranks he and Sirius had pulled on her. Hell, it hadn't been personal, but for some reason, James got the feeling that Kacie thought it had been. He sighed to himself, wondering if he would ever get through to her that he was sorry, and that he wasn't the arrogrant prick she probably thought he was. He shrugged to himself, deciding that he should probably just let it go for right now. He didn't need to get into a fight. He was stressed out enough as it was, and he didn't need himself, or anyone else, to make it worse. He would worry about this sometime else, when he actually could think about it.
He heard Helena's voice and smiled softly at the offer. Wow, what a difference it had made, this little conversation. She seemed to be completely comfortable with the both of them, in just this short amount of time. He laughed softly and said, "Thanks for the offer Helena, I might just have to take you up on that if Slughorn gives us any harder homework or harder potions to do..." Potions had never been James' BEST subject, but he had always done fairly well in it, so he wasn't too concerned, but it was still nice of Helena to offer her help if they needed it. He said, "The offer goes for you too, in any class you might need help in, especially Defense Against The Dark Arts..." That was James' best class, and he loved it. He did very well in it, and knew he could help someone with it if they needed it.

Helena saw the calculating gaze upon Kacie's face but said nothing of it for the main reason that she was the same way. She probably always had such an expression on her features, but she never allowed anyone to know what she was thinking, merely revealing to them that she was scrutinizing their every move and expression. She knew that Kacie was wary of her and part of that made her terribly sad. But, she knew it was to be expected, especially since she knew nothing of Helena. The only thing she had ever mentioned aloud to this girl was that she was disagreeing on an issue with her parents. She supposed that anything else about her could be up in the air, all conjecture, unless she were to confirm it. But, if she were confronted with any information that could be true, would she deny it? She supposed it depended on what it was. At her comment, Helena drilled her with a soft but unrelenting gaze. She really had no idea. But, she had heard all about Kacie's parents the night she had been talking with Sirius. She had had quite a rough life, but she was lucky not to be foolish enough in becoming a Death Eater. To Helena, it was her most dastardly mistake, something that she could never take back. She had to live with it forever, and that forever was bound to be extremely short. She simply nodded without a word. When Kacie mentioned that Hogwarts was her home away from home, Helena couldn't help but smile wide. She felt the same way. After all, she had nothing really to go home to, except for her grandmother. Softly, she murmured, "Yes, I wish that I never had to leave." She desired to stay at school during the holidays and sometimes she had gotten away with it, claiming to be sick or something, but she always suffered going home just to see her grandmother. That was all she cared about in that horrid place.
Helena stared at Kacie, knowing the girl thought herself to have offended the half-veela. But, with a soft grin, the raven-haired girl whispered, "Oh no, dear, it is nothing you have said to have made me react in such a manner. My mind drifted away from me for a single moment. I beg you to forgive me." She hated this. She hated lying and being deceitful to all of these people, but she was just so afraid. But, she knew the one thing that she had mentioned that she was being truthful about, her negativity, was completely true. Kacie had no idea what she had to go through every morning or through every interaction just to get by. She had to tell herself that she liked herself, even when she didn't. She tilted her head to the side in interest when Kacie said her normal. Helena felt a rather pained smile come about her face. What she would give to be normal. To be Kacie's normal. She had everything laid out for her and there was nothing she could do about that unless she wanted to end up with nothing. Besides, she already had a deathwish because she was a Death Eater. It was ironic, wasn't it? She had no idea what to say to the girl butt simply muttered, "I apologize for your troubles, Kacie. I wish that I could take them all away." She really did.She hated seeing people in such clusterbumbles. It made her terribly sad. Most saw her as a heartless pureblood snob, but underneath of her silent mask, she had a heart of gold. She knew of the rumors around Kacie's interest in Sirius, but she knew first hand that they were true. She found herself thinking that if there were any confirmed details of hurting either one of them, Helena would be sure to let them know to try and protect them. But, would she? Really? She pulled herself out of her thoughts and focused back on James and Kacie. She found it a little relieving that they were being civil towards each other. She rather detested conflicts.
Helena blinked slightly at James' comment before nodding. She completely agreed. For some reason, she hadn't thought of him to be so thoughtful or intuitive. Maybe it was insulting, but James Potter didn't look to be very smart. But, then again, she knew him to be based on his actions. Her eyes lit with a greenish glow when he said it wasn't his favorite subject. "Oh, I do hope to do something with it when I graduate. I really desire to continue its practice for I have no greater passion other than drawing." She blinked rapidly, hating herself for mentioning such a personal thing. She had never revealed to anyone her passion for the arts, but here she was rattling it off to two people she didn't even known that well. How foolish. She bit the inside of her cheek in embarrassment. "I apologize. It was unnecessary for me to mention such a thing." Years of being choked nearly to death for her dreams, Helena knew how to protect herself from disappointment. It was probably odd to them on how she had spoken, but in her youth, she had been berated for her love of sketching, even if she was quite good at it. Her mother said that drawing was no good for a lady. They must learn to play the piano, the violin, and speak in at least three languages with fluency. Her mother didn't even like that she loved Potions. She thought them to be messy and unorganized, but that was probably why Helena liked them so much. Her mother's disgust was her greatest desire. She nodded absent-mindedly to James' comment, trying to focus back on the two of them to reprieve herself from those horrible thoughts of her mother. At his smile, she felt suddenly disconcerted. Oh, how she deserved none of his kindness. He was far too gentle for hanging around the likes of her. She was a bad seed, destined for doom. She gave him a well-oiled smile and then replaced the fear in her eyes with a fragment of light. She was determined to appear completely fine to these two. She had slipped far too many times with the watchful eyes of Kacie close on her, and she needed to be more careful. She nodded again in reply to James' offer and her smile turned softer, more genuine. "Thank you. I might need to take that offer. I am not much of a fighter, really, so your aid in that class would be highly appreciated." Merlin knows she knew how to protect herself, just not how to fight. If she were ever in a duel with someone skilled in the art of combat, it would probably be the death of her.

At Kacie's comment, Helena drilled her with a soft but unrelenting gaze. She sighed softly, quietly, as she gazed out the window, taking in the sight of the night sky above the school. Beyond the constantly monotonous days that passed with unrelentingly slowness, the night seemed to pass swiftly, far too quickly for her liking. It was a peaceful time, a time for rest and contemplation, a time to let one's thoughts wander as other's went on about their dull lives. When Kacie mentioned that Hogwarts was her home away from home, it seemed as though Helena couldn't help but smile a wide smile, as if expressing that her thoughts were the very same. Softly, Helena murmured, "Yes, I wish that I never had to leave." Kacie offered Helena a soft smile in return. "I know," she replied, "At some point in time, I might even consider asking Dumbledore for a job here, after I've been gone for a couple of years. No other place seems to live up to the magic here."
Helena stared at Kacie, giving her a soft grin at her comment and whispering, "Oh no, dear, it is nothing you have said to have made me react in such a manner. My mind drifted away from me for a single moment. I beg you to forgive me." Kacie gave a small smile of relief. She hadn't wanted to offend the girl, though they were not exactly friends. She merely hated the idea of offending someone when she did not mean to. She truly wasn't as heartless as she made herself out to be. Even, on occasion, she felt bad for her attitude toward other students, mostly the ones outside of Slytherin house. Not strictly believing that the girl was being truthful in her explanation, Kacie replied, "Alright, then. I just hope you understand that I didn't mean anything rude by my comment. I don't exactly have a filter between my mind and my mouth." Kacie saw a rather pained smile appear upon Berkeley's face, and she could not help but find that it did not complement her beautiful features. She found it much more pleasant talking to her when she didn't pretend to be happy. She could see the pain and longing in her eyes, and Kacie couldn't help but ask, "Are you alright?" Helena muttered, "I apologize for your troubles, Kacie. I wish that I could take them all away." Kacie shrugged off her apology. "It's alright," she replied, "Everyone has their own trials and what not. What really matters is how you get through them, and whether or not the ending result satisfies you."
James smiled soflty as Kacie spoke, though he didn't respond. She repressed a sigh of irritation. She could see his growing annoyance with her, and she knew that they were both beginning to lose their patience with one another. She was going to try and get over her irritation towards him, but for tonight, she thought that she had done enough of trying. She turned to Helena, and murmured, "Be sure to head back to the common room soon. I'd hate to have to take away points," she joked in a low voice. Turning away from her and Potter, she made her way towards the exit. "Well, I'm beat," she yawned, "Nighty night."

James ran a hand through his unruly black hair and laughed at the look that Helena gave him. Was it so hard to believe that he had actually just said that? He guessed maybe because of the stuff he did with Sirius, people didn't think he could say intuitive stuff like that. He shrugged it off, knowing it didn't matter. It never mattered to him what people thought about him, except a select few, such as Lily and Sirius and Remus. He knew that to everyone, including Kacie it seemed, he looked like he was arrogant and self centered, which he knew he was. Well, sort of anyway. He was trying to get better about that, but sometimes it was hard when he was around Sirius alot. Not that he minded, but it just kept him going.
James couldn't help but try to hide a smile as he watched Helena. It was good that she wanted to do something with Potions when she graduated. What bugged James, was the fact that she seemed ashamed that she had said anything about it, which kind of reminded the black haired Gryffindor of himself. Not very many people knew that he wanted to be Auror when he graduated, hence why he didn't like Potions all that much. He had finally realized in his 5th year that he would probably use some of the things he had learned in Potions when he was an Auror. He knew he would probably use the wiggenweld potion, and some others. He didn't want to think about it right now. He would get through Advanced Potions, just like every other potions class he had gotten through. He would manage it somehow. The black haired seventeen year old heard Helena''s voice again and shrugged and said, "I dont think so. I think it is cool that you plan on using potions after you graduate..." He gave her a soft smile, trying to make her feel better about it, but he didn't know if it would work or not. He looked at her again, wondering why she thought it had been inappropriate to say that. He guessed it probably had to do something with the way she had been brought up, but he didn't want to ask or say anything more about it.
James waited for her to say something and smiled softly once again as he heard her voice, and saw the smile she gave him in return. James laughed softly and said, "No problem, Defense Against The Dark Arts just kinda comes naturally to me...and I'm always willing to help other people.." He shrugged and said, "Besides, it can't hurt to keep going over the things we learned with other people...especially if I want to continue to learn everything I can to become an Auror after I graduate..." He frowned slightly, wondering what had made him say that. Maybe he was just trying to make her feel better about her telling him about her wanting to use Potions after she graduated.
His concentration shifted from Helena to Kacie as he heard the other Slytherin begin talking. He frowned slightly, wondering why she suddenly wanted to leave. He decided to be nice and gave her a small smile and said, "Night Kacie.." He glanced at his watch and shrugged. It was getting late, but he didn't really care. He always was one to stay up late.

Helena gave Kacie her complete attention when she began to speak again. A sort of sadness leaked into her expression yet again, but it was only because she knew that she would never acquire the job of her dreams. It was simply impossible for her to become a Healer, especially after what she'd done. Her mind drifted to the Mark on her arm and she let a shiver shake through her spine at the fear encroaching upon her. The memory of that face, that handsome face growing closer and closer. His smile was the most frightening of all, to be completely honest. Helena considered him to be the most terrifying man she had ever had the displeasure to meet. But, he had seemed to like her, unfortunately. No man had yet been invulnerable to her charms. Smiling slightly, she remembered the face of Bellatrix Black, the expression riddled with irritation and jealousy. Moments like that were probably going to be the only ones Helena could bear. Anything in which she had to murder someone would be devastating to her psyche, but she had to do what she was told. She always obeyed. Her emeralds swept back over to Kacie. Softly, with a hint of remorse, she whispered, "It is reassuring to hear someone speak of their future, to be comforted by plans that they choose to make for themselves. Some of us are not so fortuitous, I am afraid. I wish . . ." She trailed off, biting her lip. Her head turned away and she blinked rapidly. She had said too much, spoken against her parents in a mocking manner. She should be slapped! Helena gave another smile, trying to reassure Kacie that she was quite alright. After all, what good would she be showing her true feelings so openly? She had to protect herself. Softly, she murmured, "I can assure you that I do not get offended. I feel that when people share their opinions, there is nothing wrong with disagreeing with them. After all, when one has been raised in a different environment from yourself, there is always room for disagreements. That does not mean that I will be hurt by anything anyone says. Please, do not fret."
Another smile graced her full lips. Sighing softly, Helena wondered why she even tried. She knew she was just trying to protect herself, but at what cost would she go to for such an end. She wouldn't have anyone to turn to, but that would also mean that she wouldn't have to worry about being betrayed. She looked away again, gripping the turret with her long and elegant fingers. "It just seems quite unfair that we all have to undergo some sort of pain, sometimes everlasting. I do believe that is why I wish to become a Healer. I do hate to see others in pain and desire to take it all away from them." She sighed, closed her eyes and gripped the stone harder. "But one must abide by the rules and regulations set forth through generations or there is no hope for survival." She didn't know if Kacie would understand, for she had grown up in a muggle world. What did she know of pureblood maniacs and other things of the sort? She was in Slytherin. But, that was only the half of it. At least she didn't have to go home to it. Blinking rapidly and turning back to Kacie when she spoke of how to get through such obstacles, Helena frowned ever so slightly. She thought it extremely difficult to see past her own despair at times, which was probably why she chose to delve into the darkness of others. It was a sick way of getting through her own problems, but seeing other people happy made her feel relieved, even for a short amount of time. Smiling at the joke under Kacie's breath, Helena opened her mouth to reply but then stopped. She didn't want to interrupt when Kacie turned to James. As she headed to the door, Helena felt an overwhelming surge of loneliness. Calling out, somewhat desperately, she said, "Oh, please do not depart from our company, Kacie. I do believe that your company is quite appreciated . . . at least for me."
Looking back at James, Helena gave him another smile, watching him run his hand through his hair. Without being able to stop herself, she whispered, "Is that a nervous tick or simply a habit?" She felt a little rude for asking and immediately covered her mouth with her hand. Her caramel face turned pink, tinging it with embarrassment. Her lips were graced with a sudden smile as he spoke words of reassurance towards her. She had always been rather wary of James because she had pinned him as the leader of the Marauders, but she had never expected him to be such a kind soul. Though she had watched him many times, she had yet to see this side of him. She supposed she just caught him at the wrong times. The grin grew wider when he revealed what he desired for when he was to graduate. She had thought of that, the ultimate defiance of everything she had been raised to be, but she knew she didn't have the courage for such a job. Giving a soft squeaking noise that was supposed to be a laugh, she blushed and said, "An Auror, James? I have always considered the people that desire for good in the world to be the bravest of our kind. I do admire for picking such a difficult career." She nodded encouragingly. "Practice does make perfect, after all. One can never have enough practice." She had heard that many times growing up. It was her motto, really. Noticing James look at his watch, Helena bit her lip. Oh, why did everyone else have the ability to sleep better than she? It was so irritating. Moving closer to James, she whispered, "I do wish that you will stay up here with me, too. I have grown quite lonesome all of these nights by myself. It is quite a pleasant change to have company." She smiled wider, touching his arm. She wanted to get him to stay, even if it took some of her Veela scent to affect him.

James once again found himself looking out the window into the night. He always loved looking out over the grounds, especially when there was moonlight. He had always liked the way the moonlight reflected off the lake. It made him remember the nights back home over the summer with Sirius. They had sat out on the roof sometimes and just stared at the moon and just talked. That's what James missed most. Sure the two of them still talked about everything, but it just wasn't the same. He made a mental note that he and Sirius were long over due for a late night walk around the grounds. Even though it wasn't like home, it was still better than talking while they were cooped up in the school.
The next thing he knew he heard Helena talking to Kacie, asking her not to leave. James sighed softly and just stayed quiet. He didn't really care if Kacie stayed or not. The two of them weren't really friends, but he highly doubted that Kacie would stay if she had made up her mind to leave.
The raven haired 7th year once again heard Helena's voice, and felt himself blush slightly. He didn't like being called out on his habit, but he guessed that anyone would notice it. He shrugged and said, "It's just a habit...I can't seem to break myself of it.." He laughed softly to himself, realizing that he had always done this, and that it was just something he did now. When he was uncomfortable, and even when he wasn't uncomfortable. He decided to try and not let it bother him anymore, but it was still annoying.
The next thing he heard made him blush again. He had never really considered himself brave or anything. He simply just didn't like what was going on in the world, and he was going to fight for what he believed it, and help make the world a better place. He didn't believe that he was brave. He just considered it to be doing his part to protect his friends and family from anything that may happen. He laughed softly and nodded and said, "Thanks, I've been set on doing that with my life since I was a young boy...I just always found it interesting..."
He smiled once again and said, "Yah, I practice every chance I get. That's why I always offer to help people if they need it. It keeps me sharp and also helps the other people learn what they might not have known..." He glanced at his watch again, knowing that he should probably get going on the rest of his Head Boy duties. The next thing he knew though, he didn't care about his Head Boy duties anymore. He felt a shiver run up his spine as he felt her hand on his arm and then all he knew was that Helena wanted him to stay here with her, so that's what he was going to .He smiled and said, "Sure, I can stay with you....I don't have anywhere to go..."

Helena watched James closely when his eyes turned to the effervescent heavenly body gleaming like silver in the blackened sky. Her emeralds concentrated on his own, eager to find every expression he kept from her and attempt at finding his thoughts. She noticed a kind of sadness filter into his eyes and a certain strain follow up in his hands and his facial features. Without being able to stop herself, she moved herself to him and placed a hand on the top of his. Giving him a slight pained smile, she whispered, "James, what memories have the moon given you?" She could see the reminiscent look in his eyes and she hoped that he wouldn't take her prying in the wrong way. She herself had been reminded of the late nights she had stayed up talking with her Grandmother about Werewolves and other mythical creatures. Such things had always fascinated Helena as a child and they still had quite an effect on her. Especially since the woman that taught her everything she knew was never going to tell her granddaughter another story again.
At his reply to her rather abrupt question, Helena noticed the slight reddening of his facial features. Alarmed, her emeralds widened and she muttered, "Oh! I apologize for embarrassing you, James. I meant no disrespect. I was only intrigued. I, too, have my own habits." Like getting myself into the deepest kind of trouble. Remembering to have noticed the discomfort and strain between the Gryffindor and Kacie, Helena moved closer to him, keeping her eyes locked on his so as to not miss a single emotion that could sweep through those hazel eyes. "Why is it that you two bicker quite incessantly? I do find it quite heart-wrenching." Helena was not one for conflict. She hid from it, ducking behind every shield possible to avoid any kind of disturbance someone had to talk with her about.
Hating herself for continuously embarrassing him, Helena threw him an apologetic but strained smile, gazing at him with her soft emerald eyes. She was jealous of his determination and motivation. She had always been told what she was to do with her life, never having been given a reason to choose for herself. Talk to no one unless we approve it. Become the top of your class at Hogwarts. Do not speak to your elders if they do not speak to you first. Become a Death Eater. Fight with the Dark Lord. Obey his every demand. A sickening feeling formed in the pit of her stomach and she turned away from James, wishing that she had never done it, wishing that she was brave like he and Sirius. She wished beyond everything that she could stand up for what she believed was right. Softly, she murmured, "Some of us can only dream of such achievement. You are very fortuitous, James." She turned her gaze to him once more, her face suddenly stricken with insurmountable pain and agony. She could barely stand the guilt eating at her every second of every day. What was she supposed to do, though? She was trapped in a world of lies and deceit, a coward stuck inside of a half-Veela's body. Most of the creatures were known for being bold, but she couldn't do anything for herself. How was she supposed to achieve her desires if she was caged in with Voldemort and his fellow followers? How would she escape? It seemed that death was the only way. Death by Aurors or by the man she had been told to call Lord.
Helena nodded as he spoke. She was jealous of his kindness, the trait he openly shared with anyone, even the likes of a coward and traitor like herself. She was a despicable creature and he was showing her the utmost beauty in all human nature: the willingness to reveal care towards another without fear of a consequence. When she had moved closer to him and begged him to stay, she knew that her Veela scent was affecting him. She hated using it like this, but she just didn't want to be by herself at the moment. She had gotten so used to his company that it would have almost felt like she had become empty if he left her out here to stand alone, gazing at the grounds longingly. No, she needed his company quite desperately.

The seventeen year old Gryffindor smiled softly as he heard Helena's voice asking him about his memories of the moon. At first, he just kind of shrugged. He didn't really feel like talking about it. He and Sirius were still as close as ever, but James couldn't help but feel like something big was coming their way, and it would test their friendship. The thought made James frown. He knew the war was coming, but that shouldn't test their friendship. They already knew that they were on the same side. For the briefest second, James was concerned that maybe Sirius would change sides because his family would get to her, but the raven haired teenager knew that would never happen.
He finally sighed to himself and decided that he should probably talk to her, so she didn't think he was a complete jerk. He cleared his throat and said, "I was just thinking about being back home with my friend...we used to sit out on the roof at night and talk under the moonlight, and sometimes we would just sit there in silence..." He sighed and said, "Everything is changing and I find myself wishing that things could just go back to the way they were before all the talk about this stupid war..."
James couldn't help but laugh at Helena's apology. She hadn't really embarrassed him as much as she thought she had. It had mainly just caught him off guard because no one had ever caught him doing that before, or at least no one had ever said anything about it if they had. He look at Helena, studying her for a second and said, "Oh..it's no big deal...I promise...you didn't embarrass me that much...I promise..." He hoped that that would make her not feel as bad.
James once again studied the girl as she asked him the next question. He sighed softly and said, "We just don't get along..." He thought for a second and then said, "My friends and I played a prank on a bunch of girls from different houses...I dont remember when...maybe last year...and one of the girls was the girl that I like, and one of the other girls was Kacie.." He laughed softly and then frowned a little before saying, "I guess she never forgave me, or any of us for that matter, for doing that to her.."
James took a breath as he looked at Helena again. There was something about her that intrigued him, and he felt like being nice to her. Besides, it was always in his nature to be nice to people, at least now anyways. He heard her and smiled and said, "Oh I'm not that brave....I just want to protect my friends and family...and have something for them to have in the future.." He didn't know if he sounded corny or not, and he found that he didn't really care how he sounded. That's just the guy he was and how he felt..
He looked at her again and wondered briefly why they were still standing here, but he did't care. Her veela magic had him all confused. He smiled at her and said, "Well, would you like me to take you back to your room on my way back to my rounds?"
